Anita Heiss Masterclass
The ANU recently had the pleasure of hosting a Public Lecture and a Master class by award winning Aboriginal Author Dr Anita Heiss. Dr Anita Heiss is the author of non-fiction, historical fiction, commercial women's fiction, poetry, social commentary and travel articles. She is a regular guest at writers' festivals and travels internationally performing her work and lecturing on Indigenous Studies.
She is an Indigenous Literacy Day Ambassador and a proud member of the Wiradjuri nation of central New South Wales. Anita divides her time between writing, public speaking, MCing, and as a workshop facilitator. The Master class was attended by staff of the ANU along with Indigenous staff and students from the TJABAL Centre. Anita’s lecture was both informative, imaginative and inspirational, as she let all present in on some of the tools and strategies she uses when writing and how to incorporate the human senses into the process of writing. All were either amazed or inspired by Dr Anita Hiess in any case to have the opportunity to experience such an intimate session with her was truly enriching
Trying to cram a day’s worth into sixty minutes wasn’t easy, but we managed to delve into memory, create characters and a setting, and have a damned good laugh as well. And keeping up with my experiences, the room was full of positive, energetic, inspiring and friendly souls.(Dr Anita Hiess)
